The Mountain Pointe basketball programs took a major hit in recent days.
Girls coach Trevor Neider and boys assistant coach Doug Harris both made the jump to Hamilton.
Neider had his first losing campaign last year after five straight 20 win seasons with the Pride, going 128-52 in six seasons.
His departure continues the trend of turnover among the Mountain Pointe coaching staff as 16 of the 21 coaches have been hired within the last three seasons.
Harris was an assistant under Hosea Graham, bringing a state championship resume to the bench after helping the Desert Vista boys to the state title in 2007-08.
This is his first head coaching job since being fired at Desert Vista after the 2009-10 season.
The Hamilton programs offer great facilities, a constant flow of dedicated and talented athletes and the Chandler district is known for having great support of athletics.
Both will be hard to replace but obviously Neider’s departure leaves the biggest void.
He had the Pride playing hard and getting deeper into the state tournament until last year’s stumble.
More importantly, he ran a clean program and from everything I saw had a great relationship with the players, which isn’t always easy for a male coach.
If he gets the Huskies to play as hard as the Pride did the winning ways will continue and the semifinals will become a regular scheduled event.
